Does Nutrola work offline?
Last updated 28 juin 2026
Nutrola needs an internet connection for most of what it does, including AI photo and voice logging, barcode scanning, searching for foods, and signing in. It is also local-first, though, so simple entries like water, weight, and meals from your Saved Foods save on your device while you are offline and sync automatically once you reconnect.
What works without a connection?
Once you are signed in and have used the app at least once, these actions save locally even with no signal:
- Logging meals you can enter yourself, including from your Saved Foods and your weight and water entries.
- Log Water, Log Weight, and Log Exercise (manual entries).
- Viewing and editing items you have already logged, like changing calories or macros, renaming a meal, or deleting an entry.
These entries appear in your day right away with a temporary status and then reconcile with Nutrola's servers automatically the next time you have a connection, so you usually do not need to do anything. My data isn't syncing
What needs an internet connection?
Anything powered by Nutrola's AI or by an outside database runs on Nutrola's servers, so it will not work offline:
- Scan Food (AI photo analysis) and Describe Food by voice, which are sent to Nutrola's servers to produce an estimate you can edit. My photo isn't being recognized
- Importing a recipe from a URL, which is analyzed on the server. How to import a recipe from a link
- Scan Barcode and searching packaged products, because barcode data comes from a large product database that Nutrola looks up online. Barcode won't scan
- AI corrections like Fix Result, which re-run the analysis on the server. Correct an AI meal with 'Fix Result' (tell it what's wrong)
If you are offline, the quickest path is to log the item manually or pick it from your Saved Foods, then use AI or barcode tools once you are back online. Log from the food database, your foods, and saved foods
My offline meals are not showing on another device
Entries you create offline live on the device where you logged them until that device reconnects and syncs to the server. They will appear on your other devices after the original device has had a chance to sync. If something still looks out of date after you are back online, see our sync troubleshooting steps. Tips for spotty connections
- Keep using the app normally. Manual logs are saved on your device and are not lost if the connection drops mid-session.
- If an AI scan or barcode lookup fails, check your signal and try again, or log the item manually for now.
