Does logging a workout increase my calorie budget?
Last updated 27 czerwca 2026
By default, yes. Nutrola's Add exercise calories setting is on out of the box, so any workout you log (plus Apple Health active energy on iOS) is added to your daily calorie goal on the Home screen, giving you more to eat. Turn it off in Profile to keep your goal fixed, and your burned calories are still tracked.
How it works by default
When Add exercise calories is on, Nutrola calculates your daily target as your set calorie goal plus the calories you've burned that day. So if your goal is 2,000 calories and you log a workout worth 300 calories, your Home screen shows 2,300 calories available to eat.
The burned total combines:
- Workouts you log yourself in Nutrola (via Log Exercise).
- On iOS only, active energy from Apple Health, but only when Apple Health is connected.
This setting is on by default, so for most users logging exercise does raise how much they can eat.
How do I turn it off?
If you'd rather keep your daily calorie goal fixed no matter how much you move:
- Open the Profile/Settings tab.
- Scroll to the Preferences section.
- Find Add exercise calories (described as "Let workouts raise your daily goal").
- Tap the switch to turn it off.
With it off, your daily goal stays at the value you set, and logged workouts no longer inflate your food budget.
Are burned calories still tracked if I turn it off?
Yes. Turning off Add exercise calories only changes whether burned calories are added to your daily goal. Your workouts and burned calories are still recorded and shown in the Calories burned card on Home either way. The setting just controls the math on your eating target, not whether exercise is tracked. Logging exercise and calories burned
Good to know
- This is a device-local preference. It's saved on the device where you change it and is not tied to your synced goals.
- On Android, there's no Apple Health, so only workouts you log in Nutrola contribute to the burned total that can raise your goal.
- Your base calorie goal (before any exercise bonus) is the algorithmic estimate Nutrola sets for you, which you can adjust. How does Nutrola calculate my starting calorie and macro goals? Change your calorie goal and macro targets
- To connect Apple Health so its active energy counts, see Sync with Apple Health (iOS).
