Getting started with Nutrola
Last updated 28. kesäkuuta 2026
To get started with Nutrola, open the app and finish onboarding by answering a few questions about yourself and your goal, which Nutrola uses to suggest your daily calorie and macro targets. Then tap the center + (Log) tab to record your first meal, and check the Home and Progress tabs to see your day add up.
1. Finish onboarding and pick your goal
When you first open Nutrola, you answer a short series of questions, including your details and activity level. On the goal step ("What is your goal?") you choose Lose weight, Maintain weight, or Gain weight. Nutrola uses your answers to estimate your daily calorie and macro targets. These are starting estimates, not medical advice, so check with a doctor or registered dietitian before making big changes. You can fine-tune your targets any time later Change your calorie goal and macro targets and learn how they are figured How does Nutrola calculate my starting calorie and macro goals?.
After onboarding, Nutrola shows its subscription options. There is no permanent free tier, only a free trial on the trial plan, and pricing is shown in the app at checkout and varies by region Is Nutrola free? What Nutrola Premium includes.
2. Log your first meal
Tap the center + (Log) tab in the bottom bar to open the logging menu. From there you can:
- Scan Food to point the live camera at your meal and tap the round shutter (a gallery icon lets you import an existing photo instead) Log a meal from a photo already in your gallery.
- Scan Barcode for a packaged product (there is a flash toggle for dim lighting). Barcode data comes from a large product database, so some products are not found yet, which is expected Barcode won't scan.
- Describe Food by voice (the default) or toggle to type it out.
- Search Food to look up items, or open Saved Foods for ones you reuse Log from the food database, your foods, and saved foods.
Photo and voice meals run on Nutrola's servers and come back as estimates you can edit. For full details, see How to log a meal and How Nutrola's AI calorie counting works. If an estimate looks off, you can edit the calories or a macro, change ingredients, or tap Fix Result The calorie or macro estimate looks wrong Correct an AI meal with 'Fix Result' (tell it what's wrong).
3. Check your progress
Open the Home tab to see today's totals against your calorie and macro targets, and the Progress tab for trends over time. You can edit or delete any entry you logged Edit or delete a logged meal.
4. Build a streak
Log a meal each day to grow your streak and stay motivated How streaks work. You also earn gems for logging and keeping your streak going Gems: what they are and how to earn them.
